Chìl di Fontanin

Those of Fontanini

This is how the elders of Bobbio defined us in dialect.
Originating from S. Maria, a small village that can be seen looking at Mount Penice in the valley opposite.
Mountain people dedicated to nature.

The beginning

Originality consists in returning to the origins.
(A. Gaudí)

It all starts with a wicker basket

The land was purchased at the beginning of the 20th century with the return of Giovanni Pasquali from America, where he skillfully wove wicker baskets for gold prospectors on the Mississippi River.

The farm was born later, with the family's move from S. Maria, a small hamlet of Bobbio, to Fontanini, a plateau on the hill opposite. Here they decided to grow wheat and grass for the animals on the farm. Following a generational change, cultivation shifted to medicinal plants and their derivatives.

The choice

Our desire to start a new agricultural activity comes from our passion for the land and living in the midst of nature.

The reason for plantations

The quality of production was our first concern. Given the limited extension of the land and its natural positioning, we decided to grow a single variety of lavender, the Officinalis Vera, which with its low camphor content, is also suitable for the little ones, for food use as well as cosmetics.

Saffron was selected to give greater importance to cultivation choices. Later, a modern packaging was designed to update an ancient spice, but still so important today that it is called "red gold".

The recent planting of mint in the Spicata verde and Arvensis varieties, as well as essential oils, allows the production of cosmetic products.
